Relight an image

Relight a picture in Fil. Drag a lamp to where the light comes from, pick a look like golden hour, neon or a studio softbox, and everything else stays as it is.

Relight makes the same picture under another light. Drag a lamp to where the light comes from, pick a look, and a model redraws the shadows, highlights and colour to match. The subject, its pose and the framing are asked to stay as they are.

Relight a picture

  1. On a canvas, point at the picture and click the brush at its top right (Edit), then Relight. Already in the full view? Click the Edit tab, then Relight in the rail on the left.
  2. Drag the lamp over the picture to where the light should come from. The light on the stage moves with it. It's a rough look to place the light, not the result.
  3. Pick a look: Golden hour, Noon sun, Overcast, Blue hour, Studio, Neon or Candlelight.
  4. Pick how strong it is: Soft, Clear or Bold. From behind puts the light behind the subject, for a rim of light around it.
  5. Say anything else about the light in the box, such as "a shaft of light through a window". It's optional.
  6. Click Generate. The price is on the button, and the result lands where you can compare it.

Tips

  • A model can only guess what's in the shadows, so a big change of light can redraw small details. Soft keeps the most.
  • To relight only part of a picture, use Inpaint: mark the part and describe the light you want there. Everything outside the marks stays exactly as it was.
  • To brighten, warm or cool a picture without a model, and for free, use Effects.
