Logo and brand guide

Three directions of marks, then a brand board and a brand guide page.

Describe your brand once in Brief.md. Each direction gets a sheet of six marks, the strongest mark across them becomes a brand board, and the board becomes a one-page brand guide you can open, edit and publish.

5 things in 3 steps. Every example here was made in Fil with this workflow.

How it starts

  1. Say what you want“A logo for Fil, a creative canvas where one idea branches into images, video and 3D”, or a picture. Nothing to upload first.
  2. Pick from a few choicesClaude asks about the feel of the brand, its colours and which kinds of mark to try, and tells you if a file is missing.
  3. Generate allGeometric marks, Symbol marks and Wordmarks first, then each next step as soon as what it needs is ready.

What you put in

  • A good current logo or sketchCurrent logo or sketchDrop your logo, a napkin sketch or a mark you like. Every direction builds on it. Like this one.Optional
  • Mood referenceA photo, poster or brand whose feel you want.Optional
  • Chosen markOnce the sheets are made, drop in a crop of the mark you like best. Without one, the board picks the strongest.Optional
  • Brief.mdThe name, what you do, the personality, the colours. Claude fills it in from your answers, or you can.Brief
  • Direction 1 · Geometric markDirection: Geometric mark. Build the mark from one simple solid, a cube, a ring or a fold, drawn so it hints at what the brand does. Try it as a line drawing, as coloured faces and as woven lines.Prompt
  • Direction 2 · SymbolDirection: Symbol. An abstract symbol drawn from an object, material or idea at the heart of the brand, simple enough to read at 16 px; with a logo wired in, start from it. Try it as a single loop, as repeated petals and as a knot.Prompt
  • Direction 3 · WordmarkDirection: Wordmark. The name set in a custom lowercase wordmark with one distinctive detail, such as a joined letter pair, a cut stroke or a symbol inside a letter, paired with a small mark that can stand alone; with a logo wired in, the mark is it.Prompt

Nothing has to be uploaded to start: the canvas opens with a place for each file, ready when you are.

How it runs

Generate all runs it left to right: each step starts as soon as what feeds it is ready, and you see the whole price first. Or run any step yourself.

Step by step on the canvas

  1. Generate Geometric marks, Symbol marks and Wordmarks: a sheet for each direction.
  2. Generate Brand board: it builds on the strongest mark across the sheets, or on the one you drop into Chosen mark.
  3. Generate Brand guide to turn the board into a page.

Skill

The craft every step follows, written out. It comes with the workflow, and you can change it on the canvas.

Logo explorations

Read first

  • Brief.md: the name, what the brand does, its personality and its colours. Every mark answers it.
  • A logo or sketch wired in: keep what already works in it (its shape, colour or idea) unless the direction says otherwise.

Exploration sheet (3:2)

  • Six to nine marks in a 3 × 2 or 3 × 3 grid, each centred in its own cell with generous space, on one flat background colour from the brief.
  • Without a logo wired in, each mark is a different idea within the direction, not versions of one. With one, each is a distinct treatment of it: line, faceted, woven, filled, outlined, monoline.
  • Flat vector shapes and consistent stroke weights. Every mark reads at 16 px and in one colour.
  • A wordmark spells the brand name exactly, letter by letter, lowercase unless the brief says otherwise. Each wordmark is a different construction (joins, cuts, a symbol in a letter), never the same letters in another font.
  • Small numbers under each mark (01 to 06) are fine; no other text.

Brand board (16:9)

  • Built around one mark: the chosen mark when one is wired in, else the strongest across the sheets.
  • Laid out like a studio presentation: the mark large, a horizontal lockup with the wordmark, the app icon, the palette with hex codes, a type pairing and the mark in one or two real places (a phone screen, a card, a sign).
  • Thin dividers, generous margins and a quiet background from the palette.

Avoid

Clip-art symbols, swooshes and globes, symbols that read as another trade (a cut gem for salt, a mandala for anything calm), letters that don't match the name or each other across a sheet, stray sparkles, drop shadows, bevels, more than three colours, and anything that only works large.

Wired into 4 steps on the canvas, where you can change it.
