Fil · Try it free · Video to Shorts

A long video, cut into its best Shorts.

Give Fil a talk, a podcast or a tutorial. It reads every word, finds the moments that stand on their own and cuts the best into vertical Shorts, with captions.

Try it free

Fil finds up to five Shorts in it and keeps them in your Fil. Nothing is posted anywhere. In Fil, a video can run 5 hours. Sign in with Google for one free try: what it makes is kept in your Fil account, and you join the waitlist.

How it works

  1. The video: Any video, uploaded or from YouTube.

Upload it, or in Fil for Mac, paste its YouTube link. It lands on your canvas as a video, ready to read.

  2. The reading: It knows the video before it cuts.

Fil listens to every word and tells the voices apart, watches for shots, faces and screens, and says what the video is about and where each topic starts.

  3. The clips: Moments that stand alone, judged head to head.

Fil looks for moments with a hook and a payoff that need nothing before them, tightens each to the word, then judges them in pairs, both ways round, best first.

  4. The edit: Each one a 9:16 edit, captioned.

Keep makes a clip its own video edit: your screen above your face, its hook as a title and captions on every word, ready to change and export as an MP4.

Questions

Can I paste a YouTube link?

In Fil for Mac, yes: paste the link and it downloads the video for you. On the web, upload the file; you can download your own videos from YouTube Studio.

How long can the video be?

The free try takes up to 5 minutes and 200 MB. In Fil, a video can run up to 5 hours and 5 GB.

How does it frame a screen recording?

A screen with you in a small camera bubble is stacked: the screen whole across the top, you filling the frame under it, and the captions where they meet. One person on camera is cropped on their face.

Where do my clips go?

Into a canvas in your Fil account, beside the video they came from. You’re on the waitlist, and they’re waiting there when your invite comes.

What does it cost in Fil?

Reading a video costs about 55 credits an hour, and finding 10 clips in it about 140. Credits are held at the price shown and charged at cost.

Is the try really free?

Yes, one try for each account. Fil pays for it, so there’s a daily limit: if it’s reached, come back tomorrow.
